Writing

Task 2 structure examiners reward at Band 7+

A clear four-paragraph model for agree/disagree and discussion essays — plus the linking that actually raises Coherence scores.

·David Taylor

Stop writing five-paragraph templates

Many Band 6 essays are long, generic, and off-task. Examiners reward a position that is clear from the introduction and developed without repeating the question.

A structure that works

Introduction: paraphrase + your position (one or two sentences, not a history of the topic).

Body 1: strongest reason + explanation + specific example.

Body 2: second reason, or the other side if it is a discussion essay, then your view.

Conclusion: restate, do not add a new idea.

Coherence

Use this means, as a result, a clear example is — not firstly, secondly, thirdly in every essay. Reference back: this pressure on housing.

Task 1 vs Task 2 time

20 minutes for Task 1, 40 for Task 2. Task 2 is worth more. If you are still writing Task 1 at minute 25, you are already losing band on Task 2.

Bring a recent essay to writing feedback if you want line-by-line examiner-style comments, not another YouTube template.
